Lost Identities

Beirut, Lebanon 2015

This artwork comprises clay figures arranged within a suitcase, symbolizing the plight of refugees who are forced to leave their homelands, leaving their possessions behind. Stripped down to their bare essentials, they embark on a journey into an uncertain future. The clay figures are intentionally crafted with similar shapes and proportions, reflecting society's tendency to perceive them as anonymous individuals without distinct identities.

To counter this dehumanization, I painted the clay figures in gold, emphasizing that despite being refugees, they remain human beings worthy of dignity and respect. The golden hue serves as a reminder that their worth should not be diminished and they deserve to be valued just like any other person.
